Pioneers win two of three at East Sac County quad
Okoboji/HMS picked up two wins in three duals at a wrestling quadrangular hosted by East Sac County January 5 at Lake View. After a narrow 42-36 loss to Pocahontas Area, the Pioneers defeated the host Raiders 63-16 and Manson Northwest Webster 67-18.
Six wrestlers from HMS were part of the Pioneer effort.
At 106 pounds Nathan Stofferan pinned Pocahontas Area’s Sam White in 1:33, won a 6-4 decision over Keaton Wittrock of Manson Northwest Webster and won by forfeit in the East Sac County dual. Bryce Dodge recorded two wins by fall at 152 pounds, pinning East Sac County’s Chandler Lahr in 1:19 and the Cougars’ Carter Vanwaes in 3:51. He lost by a 16-0 technical fall to Pocahontas Area’s Ryan Sommerlot.
Ethan Wiersma, wrestling at 195 pounds, recorded a pin versus the Raiders’ Kaydon Erpelding in 3:15. It was a 7-4 decision for Wiersma against Manson Northwest Webster’s Mason Anderson. Wiersma lost by fall to Pocahontas Area’s Alex Welander in 1:25. At 170 pounds James Gellerman pinned East Sac County’s Tate Lahr in 4:55. He lost twice by fall, to Ryan Panbecker of Pocahontas Area in 3:38 and to the Cougars’ Ian Kohnen in 57 seconds.
Camden Ball wrestled three matches at 132 pounds, losing by fall in each. He fell to Joel Carranza of Pocahontas Area in 1:30, to the Raiders’ Xander Hemer in 2:53 and to Owen Eldridge of Manson Northwest Webster in 5:17. At 182 pounds William Barbiere was pinned by Seth Donelson of East Sac County in 1:23. In his only other match he lost by fall to the Cougars’ Cooper Harman in 1:15.
