A fast game of amateur hockey or just leisure skating helped fill the extra hours of youngsters in the community during Christmas vacation. The tennis courts are flooded each year to provide the skating pond.
Announcement is made in this week’s Pioneer that Calvin and Jerry Van Beek have purchased the trucking business from Harold Kreykes with possession being given January 2.
On January 8 the Candy Stripers will have their Annual Supper. Meet at the Standard Cafe at 6:30.
Thursday, January 11, 1973
The Pike Cafe & Lounge announces in this issue that they will be closed January 14-21 for remodeling. They plan to open again January 22 as a Supper Club & Lounge only.
The snowfall last week carried no particular serious problems for the community with no small amount of credit due to our snow removal crew…it meant 57 man hours of labor in opening streets and snow removal to take care of the snow that fell from Saturday to Wednesday.

Brandon Verbrugge, an Iowa State senior in electrical and engineering received the 1997 Philip H. Trickey national award for his research on processing of magnetic laminations….His parents are Harv and Linda Verbrugge.
The average value of an acre of farmland in Iowa climbed to $1,837 in 1997…
Navy Lt. Matthew L. Warnke, son of Kenneth and Harriet Warnke, took part in a six month deployment to Okinawa, Japan with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines…A 1974 graduate of Sanborn High School, he joined the Navy in December 1988.
