Okoboji/HMS goes 1-2 at Siouxland Conference Duals
The Okoboji/HMS squad had an opportunity to make up some wrestling duals within the conference during the Siouxland Conference Duals February 2 at Sioux Center. The Pioneers were winners in one of their three duals. The victory came over MOC-Floyd Valley by the score of 46-30. Okoboji/HMS lost to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 50-24. The Pioneers tied Sioux Center 33-33 but tiebreaking criteria awarded a point and the win to the Warriors 34-33. Despite the pair of losses, Okoboji/HMS finished the season with a 12-6 record in duals.
There were three wrestlers from HMS competing on the night.
Bryce Dodge picked up three wins at 152 pounds. The senior won by fall over Sioux Center’s Landon Rozeboom in just 33 seconds and took only eight seconds more to pin Colby Harmsen of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. Dodge won the scoring fest over MOC-Floyd Valley’s Kooper Huss 21-15.
Ethan Wiersma recorded his only win of the night in the team’s victory over the Dutchmen. The 195-pounder won by fall over Beau Weber in 2:52. Wiersma was on the short end of two major decisions, losing 16-4 to Sioux Center’s Jacques Zomermaand and 14-4 to the Nighthawks’ Kevin Quijada.
James Gellerman picked up a win by forfeit in the MOC-Floyd Valley dual. He was pinned in 35 seconds by Boyden-Hull Rock Valley’s formidable 182-pounder Jace Mulder. Gellerman dropped his other match by decision, losing to the Warriors’ Brendan Lamfers 6-5.
