Elijah Groeneweg signs with Morningside Football

Elijah Groeneweg has signed a Letter of Intent to play football at Morningside University. The signing event on April 3 was attended by family, friends, teammates and coaches.
The 6’1” 288 pound senior from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn anchored the interior of the HMS defensive line and was also called upon to block as part of the Hawks’ potent rushing attack. In an injury-shortened senior season Groeneweg recorded 17.5 total tackles with 13 of them being solos. He collected four sacks and six tackles for loss. That came on the heels of a junior year which included 16.5 tackles, 11 solos, two sacks and three tackles for loss. A highlight of his junior season was a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown in the win over MMCRU. In each of his junior and senior years, Groeneweg helped the Hawks finish with an 8-3 record and reach the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
The Morningside football program is also no stranger to success. The Mustangs were crowned NAIA National Champions in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
