HMS girls golfers finish sixth at War Eagle Conference Tourney
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn placed sixth among the nine teams competing in the War Eagle Conference Tournament held May 2 at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center. The four low scorers for HMS combined for a total of 440 strokes over the 18 hole layout. South O’Brien was the team champion with a 413 total.
There were some individual highlights for HMS as junior Kinsey Schirmer shot a round of 99 and sophomore Gracie Knobloch carded a 106. “It was great to get two of our golfers to place in the top 20!” remarked Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. “Gracie finished 14th and Kinsey had a phenomenal day finishing 4th overall. I was a little disappointed we didn’t finish the day higher in the conference standings. All of our girls had one round they played really well and with the wind and cold, we just didn’t maintain it into the second nine. I’m excited to continue the season and see what we can do these last few meets!”
The other three HMS cards were turned in by the seniors. Abby Kunzman shot a 117, Elise Haack a 118 and Morgan Grooters a 120.
