Hawk golf girls end their season at Regional Final

The golf season for the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn golf girls drew to a conclusion at the Regional Final held May 17 at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore. HMS produced a team score of 434 to finish sixth among the eight teams competing. The top two teams advanced to the State Golf Tournament to be held in Boone May 25-26. Those teams were Newell-Fonda with a 368 total and Akron-Westfield with a 403.
Gracie Knobloch shot the low score for the Hawks with a 99 over the 18 holes. That left her five shots away from qualifying for the State Tourney as an individual. Not far behind Knobloch were Kinsey Schirmer, who shot a round of 103, and a Elise Haack, who fired a 105. Abby Kunzman came in at 127 and Morgan Grooters at 138.
“I was very proud of the Hawks in our play at Spring Valley,” commented HMS coach Cheryl Kroese. “Overall, our first round went very well, we just slipped a little in the second round. These ladies showed character, just like they do every day. As a coach, I am blessed to have gotten to work with them this season. We will miss our seniors, Elise, Abby and Morgan! These three ladies are leaders not only in golf, but in all things they participate in. We wish them well in their future endeavors!”
