Fire Department responds to Sanborn house fire

The Sanborn Fire Department was called to a house fire at 10:04 a.m. on Thurday, June 22. Upon arrival at the house, located at 410 W. 5th Street in Sanborn, they found an upstairs window air conditioner was on fire. Firefighters made entrance to the home and pushed the unit out to the ground. Some other items that were next to the unit had started on fire and they were thrown out the window and watered down.
There was no structure damage to the home but there was a lot of smoke and heat damage to the second floor. The main floor had some smoke damage. After investigation by the firefighters it was determined that the air conditioner was plugged in with two extension cords, and where the unit was plugged in to the cord it had over heated and started the carpet on fire and burned the cord and carpet to the wall and traveled up the wall.
At the time of this report on Monday the family is not living there. The Fire Department responded with 10 firefighters and was on scene for about an hour and a half.
