Lights and sirens lit up Sanborn on Sunday, June 25 for Sanborn Ambulance’s fundraiser, “Raise some Dough!”. SAM partnered with the Sanborn Country Club to turn the ambulances into delivery vehicles and deliver pizzas across the town.
“We didn’t know what to expect, but everything was planned and set up perfectly. It went so smoothly,” stated Charity Verbrugge, the new Director of Sanborn Ambulance. “The support from the community really boosted our team, from the donations to the comments of appreciation for our service. We were able to raise $2776.08 and 100 delicious pizzas came out of the kitchen in 2-1/2 hours!”
Tanya Lyman, clubhouse manager at Sanborn Country Club, explains how the fundraiser, the first of this kind for SAM, came about. “Cody Stange came to me one night when he was picking up his pizza from the Country Club and asked what I thought about having a delivery night to get the Ambulances and the Team out in the community to show everyone that they are here in Sanborn,” said Lyman. “It was one of those things I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, if it was going to be a good turn out or not. I want to thank everyone from the ambulance team to my team and all the people that ordered pizza to make it a huge success.”
How the donations from “Raise some Dough!” will be used is still in the process of being determined. Verbrugge explained, “We are a new team and still assessing the current needs of Sanborn’s ambulance service, so the funds will be earmarked appropriately after careful considerations.”
Verbrugge is grateful to everyone at Sanborn Country Club for their part in the successful “Raise some Dough” endeavor. “The kitchen staff from the Country Club was phenomenal and we are so thankful they were willing to pull such an event together,” she said. “If anyone has not tried Tanya’s pizza they are definitely missing something special!”
Knowing a good thing when she sees it, Verbrugge wants the public to be aware that this is not a one time event, saying, “We will be planning another pizza delivery night, so check out the Sanborn Ambulance facebook page for future dates.”
