Okoboji/HMS girls wrestlers have been active
The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team has already seen action in November.
On November 14 the Pioneers took on Emmetsburg and Sioux Central at Sioux Rapids. Okoboji/HMS defeated Emmetsburg 36-33 but lost to the host Rebels 54-24. Miley Appeldorn, a wrestler from HMS, won a 120-pound JV match over Sioux Central’s Ashley Bailey by fall in 1:51.
Emmetsburg hosted the Lady E-Hawk Invite on November 18. Appeldorn, wrestling at 125, lost her Quarterfinal match by fall to Emily Winkel of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in 1:29. in Consolation Round 3 she was pinned by Humboldt’s Mackenzie McMahon (Humboldt) in 3:18. Appeldorn captured 7th Place by winning a 6-1 decision over Lucy Doorneweerd of West Lyon. Okoboji/HMS scored 129 team points to place fifth out of 11 teams.
The Pioneers also participated in the West Lyon Invitational on November 20. They finishished fifth in the eight-team field, scoring 85.5 points. Madi Lauer, another wrestler from HMS, competed at 120 pounds. She dropped her Semifinal match to Avery Beisell of Spirit Lake Park, losing by fall in 18 seconds. She rallied to win the 3rd Place Match by pinning Karla Anzua of MOC-Floyd Valley in 5:28. At 125 pounds Appeldorn lost by fall to MOC-Floyd Valley’s Adriana Gutierrez in the Quarterfinals. The time was 3:37. In the Consolation Semis, Appeldorn won by fall over Mia Kraai of Sioux Center in 2:17. Appeldorn’s 3rd Place Match was a return engagement with Gutierrez and the MOC-Floyd Valley wrestler won by fall in 3:47.
