Hawk girls see round two go to MMCRU
MMCRU avenged a three-point loss to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn three days earlier by beating the Hawks 56-45 January 23 at Marcus. The Royals led by 10 at halftime and, unlike before, there would be no closing rally by HMS.
The host team was 24-of-70 from the floor for 34 percent. The Hawks were at 29 percent, making 15 of their 51 field goal attempts. MMCRU made seven of 17 three-point tries and three of seven free throws. The visitors were 4-of-26 from beyond the arc and 11-of-22 at the foul line.
Moriah Otto was the top scorer for HMS with 17 points, followed by Kylee Schiphoff with 11, Frankie Mohni with seven, Gracie Knobloch with six and Abby Douma and Addy Sheeler with two apiece. Knobloch had three assists and Schiphoff two. The 44 Hawk rebounds included 15 from Douma, nine from Otto and six from Schiphoff. Douma also blocked seven shots and Schiphoff rejected three. Lindsey Van Es and Otto each made a steal. HMS had 18 turnovers and the Royals 10.
