Vogelaar bald eagles are again nesting

They don’t receive the notoriety of the Decorah eagles, but the bald eagle pair on the Scott and Teresa Vogelaar acreage are nesting again.
The Vogelaars live one mile east of Sanborn and 1-3/4 miles north on Silver Avenue. The eagles are nesting in the northwest corner of his grove. “When the leaves are off the trees you can see the nest from Highway 59,” said Scott Vogelaar.
Bald eagles mate for life. This pair have been living here for three years. Vogelaar reported that last year was the first year they noticed eggs when there were two of them. He noted that when the eagles are not nesting they sometimes are not seen for awhile but they always return.
“One day they were both sitting in our big maple tree near the house – that’s the closest look we’ve gotten of them,” said Vogelaar. “We see them flying through the yard but they never bother our cats.”
