Hawk boys golf at WEC Tourney
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn competed Monday, April 29 in the War Eagle Conference Boys Golf Tournament at Willow Creek in Le Mars. The Hawks compiled a 413 total to finish tenth out of 11 teams.
“I was pleased with the effort the kids put forth,” said HMS coach Mark Japenga. “Jack shot a 41 on the front and 89 overall, that was a start. Also had kids struggle the first round but then battled back and shot better on the second nine. It’s coming around and the kids are playing better golf. With three meets left I like the way the kids are playing.”
Following Mastbergen on the 18-hole scorecards were Blake Meendering with a 106, Aiden Bush with a 107, Slayton McCarter with a 111, Eli Mastbergen with a 117 and Kolby Douma with a 119.
The conference dual with Gehlen Catholic was decided by the scores from the first nine holes of the tourney. The Jays took the dual 152-204. The four lowest scores were recorded by Gehlen golfers with medalist honors going to Landon Reuter and his score of 37. Jack Mastbergen was fifth with his 41.
