Late surge lifts MMCRU past Hawks


MMCRU scored all of its runs in the final three innings to rally past Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 14-9 May 22 at Hartley. HMS had broken a 2-2-tie with four runs in the fifth inning but the Royals plated six runs in the sixth and again in the seventh.
“Tough loss last night but I was happy with the way we pitched and hit the ball,” commented Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “We struggled defensively with moving some people around and will need to re-evaluate for Friday but give credit to MMCRU for hitting the ball well also.”
Eliza Tewes was 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a first-inning RBI. Natalie Daggett went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s. She doubled in a run in the third and had an RBI single in the four-run fifth. Another two-bagger drove in a pair of runs in the seventh. Abby Otto hit a two-run double in the fifth. Frankie Mohni singled in the second inning and Addy Sheeler had a base hit in the fifth. Tewes scored three runs and Daggett and Delaney Murphy two each. The Hawks left six runners on base while the Royals stranded eight.
Kamryn Ebel pitched all seven innings, yielding 12 hits. Half of the Royals’ 14 runs were earned. Ebel struck out seven batters, walked two and hit two. HMS committed three errors.
