Emmetsburg uses 13-run inning to leave Hawks behind

Emmetsburg blasted open a tight game with 13 runs in the fourth inning to top Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 15-2 in five innings June 11 at Hartley. The E-Hawks were ahead 2-1 just prior to their scoring spree.
The HMS third inning saw Blake Meedering single and come home on Jacob Cates’ RBI double.
In the fifth inning, Hunter Daggett was hit by a pitch and Lawton Schiphoff followed with a single, one of his two hits in the game. After Daggett stole a base, he scored on what was credited as a hit for Ricky Smith. That also gave Smith two hits in the game. The seventh hit for the Hawks was recorded by Grant Kunzman.
Caden Douma got the pitching start and went 3-2/3 innings. The 15 runs came on 14 hits. Nine of the runs were earned. Douma struck out three batters, walked three and hit two. Riley Wiersma pitched an inning-and-a-third of relief. He allowed no hits or runs while registering a strikeout, a walk and a hit batter. HMS was guilty of four errors.
