Conlyn immediately captivated the hearts of not only his family but many others. His fight for life and the miracles that surrounded him during his PICU stay gave people hope and encouraged a faith beyond words. Conlyn showed his feisty side often. We would remind him often to behave for his nurses. He liked certain songs on his lullaby machine and would get mad if it was silent. If the staff was doing something he didn’t like or wasn’t ready for, he let them know. He was often referred to as the BOSS. Conlyn rocked his curly mohawk and always wore one when going to battle such as surgery or removal of ECMO. He captured the hearts of many caregivers, all whom were a vital part of his journey. It was not uncommon for nurses, doctors or technicians to pray over him. He had a stuffed animal army which surrounded him and were named by his parents. His parents loved him and never left his side. Many books were read, many family prayers were said and lots of kisses, hand squeezes and foot tickling occurred.
Conlyn’s parents and staff had goals written on his wall which included get off dialysis, get off the vent and be home by Christmas. On September 12th all of those things happened, maybe not in the way we were imagining, but he is HOME.
In honor of Conlyn, the family want his celebration of life to be colorful, please wear bright colors only, nothing dark. They want him to look down and see beautiful and bright colors!
