Dominant Hawks get the sweep against West Sioux
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn entertained West Sioux September 17 at Hartley and made quick work of the Falcons, earning the 3-0 sweep. Set scores were 25-20, 25-8 and 25-16. In winning their only War Eagle Conference match of the week, the Hawks improved to 2-3 in loop play.
“Last night was a fantastic team effort!” remarked HMS head coach Cheryl Kroese. “We served well (over 90 percent), hit the ball effectively (0.247 kill efficiency with 38 kills) and were able to control the game the entire night. Super proud of these ladies for their efforts!”
The night included a milestone achieved by a Hawk senior. “We were also able to celebrate Frankie Mohni getting her 1,000th career assist,” noted Kroese. “Frankie is one of the hardest working athletes I know. She understands the game and has been a consistent part of the HMS program the past four years. We are thankful to be able to celebrate this milestone accomplishment with her!”
The HMS hitters benefitted from Mohni’s efforts against West Sioux. Eliza Tewes’ nine kills came on .381 efficiency. Abby Douma had 10 kills with a .348 efficiency and Kylee Schiphoff 10 kills as well with .240 efficiency. Mohni notched 29 assists on the night.
