HMS loses in three to Westerners
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was on the road for it’s final War Eagle Conference match of the season. The Hawks were matched up against Akron-Westfield which was in second place in the conference. The Westerners cemented that position with a 3-0 win over HMS October 17 at Akron. With the loss, by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-18, the Hawks finish tied for seventh with a conference mark of 4-6. They carried a 7-13 season record into Wednesday’s Regional tournament game at West Lyon.
Akron-Westfield was more efficient on its attack, which produced 35 kills compared to 26 for the Hawks. Abby Douma stood out for HMS with 14 kills and .276 efficiency. Kylee Schiphoff added five kills and Eva Stammer three. Frankie Mohni assisted on 23 of the kills.
There were no solo blocks but Douma assisted on five. Eliza Tewes dug up 15 Westerner attacks and Mohni 10. Addy Sheeler was 15-of-15 serving with an ace. Moriah Otto served two aces.
