Three taken to hospital in two-vehicle collision west of Sanborn
A traffic accident west of Sanborn on November 5 resulted in three people being trsnsported to the hospital. The collision occurred at about 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and Oriole Avenue, four miles west of Sanborn
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, a 2023 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Christopher Michael Cammann, age 35 of Sanborn, was traveling westbound on Highway 18 near the intersection of Oriole Ave. A semi tractor trailer was in front of Cammann and it was turning southbound onto Oriole Ave (Blacktop L40). Cammann stopped behind the semi as it was turning.
A 2011 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by Riely Shawn Andringa, age 20 of Sheldon, was also traveling westbound on Highway 18. After cresting a hill, Andringa observed the vehicle stopped ahead of him. Andringa stated that his brakes did not appear to be functioning properly and he was unable to stop before colliding with the Cammann vehicle. The semi was not struck. Andringa then drove off of the roadway to the right and came to rest, damaging a stop sign at the northwest corner of the intersection.
Cammann and a juvenile passenger inside his vehicle both complained of injuries. They were transported by EMS ground to the Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Andringa complained of neck pain and was transported via personal vehicle to the Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Both pickups were totaled with Cammann’s Dodge sustaining approximately $25,000 worth of damage and the damage estimate for the Andringa Chevy being $20,000.
