City Council Minutes, Claims and Notice
The Sanborn City Council met in regular session Monday, December 9, in the Donald Kroese Council Chambers. Mayor Randy Lyman called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. with the following Council Members present: Jerry Back, Kevin Groendyke, Larry Reitsma, Brian Visser, and Aaron Wiekamp. Others present: Jenny Campbell, Brian Elgersma, Wendy Reed, Adam Roelfs, and Jim Zeutenhorst.
Motion Visser, seconded by Wiekamp, to approve the agenda. Roll call was taken. Roll call: Ayes 5 /Nays 0
Jenny Campbell initiated discussions on behalf of the golf board, moving Items #8a and 9b of the council agenda forward. Motion made by Groendyke, seconded by Visser, allocating $40,000 of their fund balance to equipment replacement. Roll call: Ayes 5/ Nays 0. Motion made by Visser to grant a $5,000 bonus to the greenskeeper; motion failed for lack of a second.
A motion was made by Back to approve the consent agenda. Motion seconded by Groendyke. The following consent agenda items were approved: a. Approve minutes of November 12 meeting b. Approve December bills c. Resolution #2024-26 Sanborn Electric & Telecommunications 2025 Budget d. O’Brien Co. Sportsman’s Archery Range e. Liquor License renewal for Rails f. Liquor License renewal for Jay’s Restaurant g. Liquor License Expedited Application for The Grain House h. Pay Request #9 West Branch Construction WWTP MCC Project Roll call: Ayes 5 /Nays 0. Zeutenhorst provided updates on the EPA Administrative Order response and the future water source project Dakota Main Stem. Motion made by Back granting a $1.00/hr. wage increase for Adam Roelfs for completing his Wastewater Grade II Certification. Motion seconded by Wiekamp. Roll call: Ayes 5/ Nays 0.
Clerk Reed presented monthly financials including resolutions pertaining to old/outstanding accounts payables; dating as far back 2007. Motion made by Back to approve Resolution #2024-29 Voiding Outstanding Accounts Payable and Resolution #2024-30 Void Outstanding Checks Insignificant to the State of Iowa. Motion seconded by Wiekamp. Roll call: Ayes 3/Nays 0. Motion made by Groendyke, seconded by Visser, to share chamber dollars with city employees, based on full-time/part-time/permanent part-time status, as an annual thank-you. Roll call: Ayes 5/ Nays 0.
Motion made by Groendyke, seconded by Visser, appointing Mayor Lyman as the Northwest Iowa Area Solid Waste Agency Sanborn Representative. Roll call: Ayes 5/ Nays 0.
There being no further business to come before the Council, Motion Back, seconded by Reitsma to adjourn at 7:15 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 5:00p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Roll call was taken. Vote results: Ayes 5 /Nays 0

Legal Notice
The Sanborn City Council met in special session Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in the Donald Kroese Council Chambers. Mayor Randy Lyman called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following Council Members present: Jerry Back, Kevin Groendyke, Larry Reitsma, Brian Visser, and Aaron Wiekamp. Others present: Jim Zeutenhorst, Adam Roelfs, Wendy Reed, Michelle Vos, Brady Bootsma, Brian Elgersma, Doug Elgersma, John and Donna Farrell, Kevin Koerselman, Seth Irmiter, Dan Verrips, and Alan Visser.
Mayor Lyman requested one addition to the agenda; Visitors. Motion by Groendyke, seconded by Wiekamp to approve the agenda. Roll call was taken. Vote results: Ayes 5 /Nays 0
Members of the golf board spoke with city council on topics of budgeting, salaries and season bonuses, proshop and clubhouse, and future projects. Motion made by Visser for a salary increase for city employee Kevin Koerselman to $54,225 annually, until July 1,2025, when then the annual salary will become $59,500. Motion seconded by Wiekamp. Vote results: Ayes 5 /Nays 0. Other business mentioned: housing incentives for new construction. No action taken.
There being no further business to come before the Council, Motion Groendyke, seconded by Visser to adjourn the special meeting at 8:41 p.m. Vote results: Ayes 5 /Nays 0
