Okoboji/HMS boys win twice to earn tie for Siouxland crown
The Okoboji/HMS boys earned a share of the Siouxland Conference Championship by sweeping duals against West Lyon and Central Lyon/George-Little Rock January 28 at Rock Rapids. The Pioneers defeated West Lyon 56-24 and the host Lions 53-26. Okoboji/HMS and West Lyon joined Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley with 6-1 conference dual records.
Wrestlers from HMS competing were Nathan Stofferan at 113 pounds and Riley Mattingly at 215. Stofferan won by fall over West Lyon’s Trenton Anderson in 2:51 and then won by forfeit in the dual with the Lions. Mattingly absorbed a pair of losses. He was pinned by West Lyon’s Jackson VerMeer in 27 seconds and dropped a 10-4 decision to the Lions’ Ethan Knobloch.
Two other HMS grapplers, Austin Greer and Braxton Ball wrestled 126-pound JV matches against the Wildcats. Greer won by technical fall (19-3) over Reece Snyders in 3:07. Ball pinned Grady Boysen in 1:01.
