Hawk bowlers split with OABCIG
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls and boys bowling teams got in one last competition before the state qualifying meets, traveling to Ida Grove February 11 to take on OABCIG at Ida Bowl.
“With this being the last regular season meet, our focus was on securing a strong performance and a win for both the girls and boys teams,” explained HMS coach Julia Meyer. “The girls started strong in the individual games and built an early lead of 130 pins. They maintained their momentum through the baker games, ultimately finishing ahead of OABCIG with a final score of HMS 2297 to OABCIG’s 2117.”
The baker games for the girls were 140, 157, 148, 137 and 126. The girls high scores included a 208 from Jordan Lux, a 173 from Addison Huffman and a 164 from Lillian Van Loon. Lux rolled the high two-game series of 361 as the team finished the with a record of 7-1.
“This victory was a perfect opportunity for the girls to build confidence as we head into the state qualifying meet,” said Meyer.
The HMS boys totaled 2809 pins but lost to the Falcons and their pinfall of 2929 to finish at 8-2 on the season. The boys’ baker games were 212, 179, 219, 168 and 185.
“The boys began strong, taking the lead after the first individual game,” noted Meyer. “However, the OABCIG boys gained momentum in the second game, After the second individual games, we were trailing by 90 pins and felt this deficit was within reach to overcome. The baker games were solid, but unfortunately, they weren’t quite enough to surpass the OABCIG boys and the 90 pins.”
Eli Mastbergen bowled games of 230 and 191 for a two-game total of 421. Other high rollers were Damian Dodge with a 197, Dawson Niichel with a 195, Hunter Daggett with a 193, and Luke Dagel and Jack Mastbergen each with a 190.
“Once again, I want to thank the fans and families for their support, as well as Locomotion Lanes for providing the lanes to use,” said Meyer. “We had a good season for both teams. Now, on to the state qualifying meet!”
