Sanborn firefighters summoned to Sheldon fire
Sanborn Fire Department was called in to back up Sheldon firefighters in extinguishing a Friday evening blaze at a shed in the north part of Sheldon.
The fire occurred 520 North 2nd Avenue otherwise known as old Highway 60 north. Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt, reports that the owner left the building at about 6:00 p.m. and that the fire was called in about an hour later. The Chief believes the cause of the fire was most likely the chimney on a wood burning stove.
Hindt said when firefighters arrived they saw flames in the window near the wood burning stove and flames venting out through the roof. An attack was made through the window while another crew gained entry and made an interior attack. An aerial crew knocked out the flame that was coming through the roof. Tin was removed from the interior to access the area between the interior wall and the exterior brick wall. Insulation was also removed on the roof to look for the extension of the fire.
The Chief reported there were no injuries and that crews were there until around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
He said additional assistance was provided by Sheldon Police, the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, The O’Brien County Communication Center and Mid American Energy.
The O’Brien County Assessor’s website shows the property as being owned by Leon Kleinwolterink and others.
