Man with Sanborn ties, skis in Special Olympics World Winter Games

Nick Mills of Sioux Falls returned home Monday, March 17th from Turin, Italy where he competed in the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
Nick is the son of Roy and Stacey Eeten of Sioux Falls and the grandson of Jack and Carol Elgersma and the great-grandson of Norm Holz, all of Sanborn.
There were over 100 countries represented by 1500 athletes at the Games. Competition included eight events: Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, dance sport, figure skating, floorball, snowboarding, snowshoeing and short track speed skating. Nick participated in three Alpine skiing events. He took 7th place in the Super G (speed) and took 5th place in the Giant Slalom, even after he fell. He topped that by earning a Silver Medal with his 2nd place finish in the Slalom. Nick was one of 333 athletes who competed in the Alpine skiing events held in the Sestriere area in the Alps.
