Hawk rally falls short against Gehlen
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was fighting till the last at bat to complete a comeback but Gehlen Catholic snuffed out the rally to preserve a 7-4 War Eagle Conference victory June 6 at Le Mars. With the loss HMS dipped to 0-2 in the conference.
The Hawks drew first blood with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The Jays responded with a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth.
Cammy Wilson went 2-for-3 at the dish with a two-run double in the fourth. Mahkenzie Mattingly singled home the two runs in the seventh. Eliza Tewes was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Kamryn Ebel and Addy Sheeler each had one hit. HMS left seven runners on base, the Jays three.
Gracie Knobloch struck out seven, walked six and allowed four hits in her six innings of work. Two of the Jays’ runs were earned. HMS had just one error.
