Winning St. Mary’s finds the holes HMS hitters don’t
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn recorded only three hits in losing to Remsen St. Mary’s 10-0 June 16 at Remsen. St. Mary’s sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring eight runs. The home Hawks then ended the War Eagle Conference game with two runs in the fourth.
“The girls struggled with the bats tonight,” said HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “We had the pitcher timed but couldn’t find any holes. Kamryn (Ebel) pitched a good game, they just found the holes. Gracie (Knobloch) came in to change stuff up and pitched well.”
Ebel faced 10 batters and was able to get one out. She surrendered eight runs on four hits with five of the runs being earned. Ebel walked three batters and hit one. Knobloch got the final two outs of the first inning and then pitched into the fourth. There were no outs when St. Mary’s scored its two runs in the fourth. One of the two runs Knobloch allowed was unearned as the batter reached on an error. It was the fourth error of the game for the visitors. Knobloch struck out five batters, walked one and allowed two hits.
The HMS hits, all singles, came from Frankie Mohni, Lindsey Van Es and Knobloch. The latter also reached on an error. St. Mary’s pitcher Josie Schwickerath did not allow a walk or hit a batter. She struck out three.
