Hawks split two games at Central Lyon Tournament
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn had a .500 day at the Central Lyon Softball Tournament held June 28 at Borman-Forster Fields in Rock Rapids. The Hawks knocked off the host team 6-4 but were shut out 9-0 by Unity Christian. The split put HMS at 4-13 on the season.

Gracie Knobloch tossed a complete game one-hitter in the victory over the Lions. The hitting star was Mahkenzie Mattingly who went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer in the first as the Hawks took a lead they would not relinquish.
“Gracie pitched one of her better games today,” stated HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “The girls hit well. Mahkenzie hit one out which I could see coming by the end of the season. The girls had fun and really enjoyed playing together today.”
Knobloch struck out 10 batters, walked nine and hit one. Three of the four Central Lyon runs were earned. Knobloch also had an RBI single and scored ahead of Mattingly on the round-tripper. Eliza Tewes singled and scored in the first and Lexi Schmillen had a base hit in the sixth.
The Lions left 10 runners on base while HMS stranded five. The Hawks were guilty of three errors.

Unity Christian pitcher Addyson De Boom allowed just three hits in five innings as the Knights got the shutout. Tewes and Mattingly each singled and Addy Sheeler had a bunt base hit.
Kamryn Ebel pitched a third of an inning before giving way to Schmillen. Ebel gave up four earned runs on two hit batters and two extra-base hits. She recorded one strikeout. Schmillen surrendered five earned runs on three hits, nine walks and a hit batter. She struck out three. The Hawks committed one error.
