A nine-run fifth inning capped off MMCRU’s 17-0 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 27 at Hartley. The loss dropped the Hawks to 0-8 in the War Eagle Conference and 0-14 on the season.
Four different HMS batters hit singles off Royals pitcher Eli Schlenger. They were Grant Kunzman, Lawton Schiphoff, Caden Douma and Blake Meendering. Douma also drew a walk and Schiphoff reached base on an error.
The Hawks used four pitchers in the game: Riley Wiersma, Mykle Meyers, Riley Mattingly and Jack Mastbergen. Combined they allowed 16 earned runs on 12 hits. They walked a total of nine batters, struck out four and hit four. HMS committed two errors.
