George-Little Rock scores late to foil Hawks
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn managed to take the lead over Geoege-Little Rock, but it was short-lived. The Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and then kept HMS off the board in the seventh to win 7-6 June 23 at George.
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. George-Little Rock moved in front with five runs in the second. HMS tied the game with a three-run fifth prior to taking the brief 6-5 lead in the next inning.
Anthony Olvera had a hit and drove in two runs. Blake Meendering and Riley Wiersma each contributed a hit and scored a run. James Carlin also recorded a hit. Grant Kunzman scored two runs and Lawton Schiphoff scored a run and drove in a run. Brody Meendering scored a run. The Hawks coaxed seven walks off George-Little Rock pitching.
Kunzman pitched all six innings. He allowed 11 hits, struck out seven and walked two. Only three of the Mustangs’ runs were earned. HMS was guilty of five errors.
