Alta-Aurelia outlasts Hawks

When Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get the winning run home, Alta-Aurelia said thank you very much and scored four times in the eighth to knock off the Hawks 13-9 July 3 at Hartley. The loss dropped HMS to 7-15 on the season entering postseason play on Monday, July 7.
“The girls played a tough game,” commented HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “The bats weren’t on fire and we just couldn’t hit the first pitcher. Kamryn (Ebel) and Lexi (Schmillen) both pitched well. Working on the little things for Monday!”
Each team had 13 hits in the game. HMS stranded 10 runners while the Warriors left eight runners on base. Gracie Knobloch went 3-for-4 at the dish with an RBI and two runs scored. Ebel was 3-for-5 with one run scored and one batted in. Schmillen went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run scored. Also going 2-for-4 was Cammy Wilson. She scored a run and batted in a run.
Ebel pitched the first five innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits. She struck out three batters, walked one and hit one. Five of the seven runs given up by Schmillen were earned. Her three innings in the circle included five hits, three walks, a strikeout and a hit batter. The Hawks were guilty of six errors.
