Host MMCRU captures two wins over Hawk bowlers
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn resumed the bowling season January 9 by taking on MMCRU at Remsen’s Maple Lanes Bowl. HMS came out on the short end in both matches. MMCRU beat the Hawk girls 2250 pins to 2210. The boys suffered a more lopsided loss with the Royals totaling 2953 pins compared to 2720 for HMS.
“Our meet with MMCRU was our first meet after the Holiday break and we showed signs of not being in practice for two weeks,” noted HMS coach Julia Meyer. “And then MMCRU was on their home alley in Remsen. Their home alley was definitely an advantage for them. Our girls gave the MMCRU girls team a good battle and narrowly lost by only 40 pins.”
Kaidence Shaffer bowled games of 170 and 155 for a high total of 325. Kaeley Benson rolled a 161, Mason VerHelst a 157. Lillian Van Loon and Jordan Lux each bowled a 155. The Baker games for the girls were 128, 154, 167, 99 and 164.
“The girls have shown improvement each meet this season and this meet we met up against a pretty tough opponent and we held our own until the end,” said Meyer. “I was proud of their scores and effort. We still have some improving to do on the spares however.”
The gap between the boys totals was 233 pins. “The boys team battled the MMCRU boys team and with the home advantage on the wood lanes, it was an uphill battle for our boys team,” commented Meyer. “We had some good games and good effort, just could not get the momentum going our way. The boys gave it their all and have been improving each meet, however, they were adjusting and re-adjusting to the lanes and just could not get the pins to keep falling in their favor. It was definitely a learning experience for trying to adjust to the different lane type and their conditions.”
The Hawks produced three 200+ games as Luke Dagel bowled a 240, Dawson Niichel a 223 and Hunter Daggett a 222. Daggett rolled the high two-game total of 391. The boys Baker games were 157, 209, 187, 211 and 156.
