Hawk boys and girls bowlers score wins over Pocahontas Area

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn picked up two more wins as the Hawks hosted bowlers from Pocahontas Area February 3 at Locomotion Lanes.
Before the competition began, time was taken to honor the five HMS senior bowlers, all boys, They are Damian Dodge, Ryan Grotluschen, Jack Mastbergen, Dawson Niichel and Skyler Shaffer. “We will miss these senior boys and their talents and we want to wish them the best of luck in their future,” said their coach, Julia Meyer.
The scores for the boys were 2817 for HMS and 1201 for the Indians. “The boys showed good accuracy with their shots on Monday, but there was still potential for higher scores,” noted Meyer. “Pocahontas was short-handed, with only three players this year. As a result, they only bowled three individual games since the win was quite evident.”
All five seniors played on the varsity team, achieving notable scores. They included Jack Mastbergen with a 227 and a 209, Dodge with 209 and a 202, Shaffer with a 197 and Niichel with a 189.
“The boys are committed to daily practice, focusing on making adjustments and performing at their best,” stated their coach. “As the season approaches its end, it’s more important than ever to peak and showcase their top form.”
The girls bowled three individual games as well, since Pocahontas Area’s girls team was shorthanded with just two girls. The final pinfall was HMS 2228, Pocahontas Area 572. “The girls performed well today, demonstrating that their practice is paying off,” said Meyer. “We still need to maintain consistency and confidence in hitting the usual spares, which are steadily improving as their scores reflect.”
Jordan Lux produced the high score of 188 and also bowled a 172. Lillian Van Loon rolled a 186 and a 180. Kaidence Shaffer and Kaeley Benson each bowled a 181, Addison Huffman a 178 and Jeriann Holtz a 165.
