Hawks are shut out in loss to Gehlen Catholic
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was held to just a pair of hits as Gehlen Catholic blanked the Hawks 11-0 in five innings June 6 at Le Mars. The War Eagle Conference loss dropped HMS to 0-2 in the conference and 0-5 overall.
Grant Kunzman recorded both of the Hawk singles. Lawton Schiphoff drew three walks. Brody Meendering and Caden Douma also received a free pass. James Carlin stole two bases in two attempts.
Kunzman also got the starting pitching nod. He went 3-2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on 12 hits. Six of the runs were earned. Kunzman walked a batter and hit a batter. The final 1/3 of an inning went to J.W. Van Der Merwe. He allowed a hit and an unearned run. HMS was guilty of five errors.
