Hawks win conference opener over Harris-Lake Park
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got a complete game victory out of Jordan Ortega as the Hawks topped Harris-Lake Park 6-2 May 28 at Lake Park. The game was the season’s first War Eagle Conference contest for the Hawks, who improved to 2-1.
Ortega allowed six hits and one earned run. He struck out six batters, walked three and hit one. There were two HMS errors.
The Hawks built a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings. HLP tied it in the third with their only two runs of the game. HMS reclaimed the lead with a three-run fourth. The Hawks tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.
Leadoff batter Keaton Graves turned in a 4-for-5 night at the plate. One of the hits was a two-bagger and he scored two runs. Samuel Heyn went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Keith DeBoer was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Jacob Cates’ 2-for-4 evening included an RBI. Ortega got a hit, scored a run and drove in two. Nick Bronstad walked and scored and Trenton Vollink was hit by a pitch and scored.
