Chamber Chat
Hey everyone! This is Wendy Nelson filling in for the monthly chamber chat this month. If you didn’t see the neat article in last week’s Pioneer we lost our very valuable awesome Chamber Director, Sally Smith. Since we haven’t finalized a new Director, yet I got the opportunity to take back my chamber chat position from the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth…ok…maybe not that long ago 😉.
The chamber board hopes that many of you were able to enjoy some of the events we had this past Railroad Days. There was a wide variety of activities for all ages throughout the whole weekend and it is always so good to see not only the locals running around, but some faces from the past visiting or new friends we had never met. As always if you have anything that you LOVED and want to see again or suggestions of new and exciting attractions or a possible way to improve the annual celebration, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email at sanbornchamber@gmail.com.
The 2021-2022 school year is fast approaching, and the brand-new shiny HMS middle school is ready to open its doors for its upcoming Junior High students. A ribbon cutting was held Monday August 16th and the students will be able to tour the building and get acquainted with where their classrooms are on Thursday August 19th. I know a lot of you have enjoyed watching the old go down and the new go up, hopefully you will be able to attend an event soon enough and see what the inside has to offer.
Over the past four years there has been a Sanborn Community Garden located south of the Cornerstone Church on the east side of town. Many delicious vegetables along with gorgeous flowers have grown in those plots bringing food not only to the master gardener, but to local food banks as well. In conjunction with the ISU Extension office the Sanborn Community Garden will be hosting a “Garden Tour” on Wednesday August 25th from 9am-10am. Refreshments and goodies will be served while garden tours given to anyone interested in learning a little bit more about the project. Plots are available for next season, so if you are interested the 25th would be a great time to stop and see what the program is all about. If you are not able to make the tour but have some interest you can contact Kate at the ISU Extension office at 957-5045. The group is also planning on hosting a “van Gogh in the garden” event in September sometime. We will make sure to keep you posted on those details as they develop.
Before I leave you today as I mentioned Sally’s resignation, the Chamber is currently seeking an individual to fill the Director position. Averaging only 15 hours a month, it is a great second job or one to keep you busy and involved, but not stressed out. If interested in this paid position or want to know a little bit more about it email Laura Lux at sanbornchamber@gmail.com. Applications and interested parties are due by August 25th.
