Bison Burgers, Music and a Great Outdoors
By Mari Radtke
The annual Bison Burger Picnic and Lawn Concert hosted by Little Sioux Valley Conservation Association (LSVCA) was held following a missed year due to COVID. The 2021 fundraising event was a huge success! According to Dave Stoll, LSVCA President said about 360 people were served, adding the number of picnicers was similar to other years.
As a result of minor audit notes, new cooks for the bison burgers were found. And OH! What a great change. Who better to cook burgers than Cattlemen? Maybe Pork Producers, but Tuesday evening the O’Brien County Cattlemen cooked the burgers. This year they were served juicy and pink. The bison burgers were even more enjoyable than years gone by. Also served was baked beans, potato chips, watermelon and a drink. The watermelon was as sweet as has been eaten this year!
Entertainment was provided by “Itty Bitty Boji Band.” They performed a wide range of music genres from polka to soft country rock.
Vote with dollars was a fundraiser that gave anyone wanting to a chance to choose the names of the newest bison addition. This year 2 girls and a boy were added to the herd. One of the girl’s name selected is “Hope.” Very fitting in light of all the controversy Prairie Heritage Center/O’Brien County Conservation, Little Sioux Valley Conservation Association and their partnership have overcome this past year.
The other two names? Bonnie and Clyde!
