Otto records top 10 finish at West Lyon Cross Country Invitational
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn senior Madison Otto produced a top 10 finish at the West Lyon Cross Country Invitational held September 13. Otto placed sixth over the challenging layout at Lake Pajoha State Park near Inwood.
Freshman Kamryn Ebel turned in a 25th-place finish while juniors Juliana Pasillas and Ashleigh Vermeer were 42nd and 44th respectively. Freshman Gracie Knobloch completed the HMS contingent with a 45th-place finish. As a team the Hawks were last among the six teams with a score of 137. George-Little Rock/Central Lyon compiled a score of 23 to take first place.
The HMS boys varsity team consisted of six runners. Sophomore George Vargas had the top finish, coming in 27th. Next were junior Bryce Dodge (32nd) and senior Aiden Jensen (38th). Three more freshman rounded out the effort as Aiden Bush placed 42nd, Blaine Finster 43rd and Ryan Grotluschen 48th.
With a score of 169, the Hawk boys finished sixth out of the eight teams competing. Securing an easy victory with a score of 17 was the team from Western Christian.
Freshman Damian Dodge and sophomore Gavin Faulkner competed at the JV level. Dodge earned eighth place and Faulkner 15th.
