Okoboji/HMS gets a win and a loss at Sioux Center double dual

The Okoboji/HMS wrestling team managed a split in a double dual held December 10 at Sioux Center. The Pioneers got things started with a 46-30 victory over Hinton. The host Warriors defeated Okoboji/HMS 45-30.
James Gellerman emerged with a pair of wins by decision at 182 pounds. He defeated Garrett Lindley of Hinton 9-2 and Sioux Center’s Jacques Zomermaand 12-7.
Three other HMS wrestlers went 1-1 on the night. At 285 pounds Nick Bronstad won by forfeit in the Hinton dual but lost a 5-0 decision to Sioux Center heavyweight Ethan Hooyer. The 195-pound weight class saw Ethan Wiersma pin Hinton’s Bode Binneboese in 5:35 and lose by fall to Zachery Rozeboom of Sioux Center in 46 seconds.
Jonathan Ortiz was a 145-pound winner by forfeit against the Blackhawks. He lost by fall to Sioux Center’s Brodie Van Regenmorter in 1:27. At 138 pounds Jack Mastbergen was pinned by Hinton’s Michael Loutsch in 1:17 and lost by fall to the Warriors’ Kole Hooyer in 3:48.
Bryce Dodge picked up a pair of quick pins on the exhibition stage. The victims were the Blackhawks’ Brogan Lake in 59 seconds and Gavin VanderSchaaf of Sioux Center in 31 seconds.
