Fast-starting Remsen St.
Remsen St. Mary’s jumped out to a 20-point lead over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn after one quarter of their War Eagle Conference match-up January 20 at Remsen. HMS was unable to get back into the game, which St. Mary’s eventually won 78-32. The contest was postponed from December 10 for weather reasons.
HMS suffered 31 turnovers and was outshot 52 percent to 31 percent. That was 34-of-66 from the field for St. Mary’s and 12-of-39 for the visiting Hawks. HMS hit two of seven three-point tries and was 6-of-11 from the free throw line. The host Hawks went 5-for-13 beyond the arc and sank five of six charity tosses.
HMS got 10 points from Jasmine Lux, seven from both Lydia Harders and Gracie Knobloch, two each from Emily Mutombo, Emily Otto and Kylee Schiphoff and one from both Abby Otto and Eliza Tewes. Emily Otto recorded the lone assist. Leading scorer for St. Mary’s was Claire Schroeder with 21 points.
Top rebounders for HMS were Harders with eight boards, Elise Haack with six and Lux with five. Mutombo and Knobloch each stole the ball twice. St. Mary’s committed 14 turnovers.
