Hot-shooting West Sioux downs HMS girls
West Sioux outshot Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 50 percent to 28 percent and came away with a 59-44 War Eagle Conference victory over the Hawks January 21 at Hawarden. The loss dropped HMS to 0-6 in the conference and 4-9 overall.
The Falcons made 23 of their 46 field goal attempts. Meanwhile, HMS was just 15-of-53 from the field. From beyond the arc West Sioux was 4-of-14 and the Hawks 6-of-20. HMS sank eight of 13 free throws while the Falcons converted nine of 12.
Gracie Knobloch drained four shots from three-point range and finished with a game-high 16 points. Jasmine Lux added 10 points, Lydia Harders nine, Emily Mutombo and Kylee Schiphoff four each and Emily Otto one. Elise Haack recorded an assist. West Sioux had six players score at least seven points led by Molly Hulshof with 13.
The 28 HMS rebounds included seven from Lux, six from Harders, four from Mutombo and three from both Otto and Abby Douma. The Hawks got two steals each from Lux and Knobloch. There were 12 West Sioux turnovers while the Hawks committed 18.
