HMS girls fall to MMCRU again
For the second time in less than a week, the schedule presented Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with the opportunity to take on the team currently ranked fourth in Class 1A. MMCRU ran its record to 17-0 with a 68-31 War Eagle Conference win over the Hawks January 31 at Hartley. The game was rescheduled from January 14 due to the winter storm that swept through the area.
HMS shot just 19 percent for the game. The Hawks put up 52 shots but only 10 found the mark. MMCRU was 21-of-63 from the floor for 46 percent. The Royals went 5-for-18 from beyond the arc and 5-for-10 at the foul line. HMS drained four of 12 three-point shots and sank seven of 16 free throw attempts.
Kylee Schiphoff finished with 12 points and Gracie Knobloch scored nine. Adding three points each were Abby Douma and Frankie Mohni. Jasmine Lux and Lydia Harders each tallied two points. Three senior starters accounted for the bulk of MMCRU’s points as Taylor Harpenau scored 22, Ellie Hilbrands 18 and Emily Dreckman 17.
Rebounding leaders for the Hawks were Jasmine Lux with seven boards and Schiphoff and Emily Mutombo with six each. Mutombo also recorded a pair of steals. The Royals committed 11 turnovers while HMS had just over twice that many with 23.
