“We had a great night last night (June 6) honoring Linda Oldenkamp as recipient of the 2022 GEMS Global Leader of the Year! Linda is currently our 6th grade co-counselor and Club Coordinator,” said Shannon Rydberg.
Linda has been involved with GEMS for over 30 years. GEMS is an acronym for “Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior.”
Nominations are submitted to a board for the international GEMS club who makes the final selection of GEMS GLOBAL Leader of the Year. According to Rydberg, the local Sanborn Club has 10 other counselors and all nominated Linda. “Our club ranges from year to year but averages over 40 girls in the club from Sanborn and neighboring communities,” Rydberg added about the local organization.
GEMS is celebrating its 64th year of equipping girls to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). GEMS is currently in 17 countries around the world with 25,000 girls involved.
