Hawk times drop at Sibley-Ocheyedan Invite
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was in action for the second time this season, competing September 6 at the Sibley-Ocheyedan Cross Country Invitational. The Hawks showed improvement in the event held at Sibley Golf & Country Club in Sibley.
George Vargas placed 23rd in the boys race and Gracie Knobloch 32nd on the girls side. She finished just ahead of Lexi Croatt who was 33rd. The HMS girls wound up eighth as a team.
“Our kids are off to a strong start to the season,” remarked Hawk coach Kirsten Taylor. “Our boys’ total team points (173) were almost cut in half in comparison to last year’s total team points at Sibley. They finished seventh overall. Vargas led the way for our boys program, and Knobloch for our girls. Croatt finished seconds behind Gracie, as they both put up some great times. It’s been wonderful having Lexi back after missing last season due to injury. Many of our kids have shaved minutes off of their times at this point from last season. We are excited to have enough numbers to be able to compete as full teams, and are working hard to keep our kids healthy.”
