Wins elude Hawks at HLP Tourney
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was unable to pick up a win in three tries at the Harris-Lake Park Volleyball Tournament held October 8 at Lake Park. The day’s results dropped the Hawks to 8-14 on the season.
The HMS opened against Kingsley-Pierson with the Panthers winning 21-12 and 21-16. Kylee Schiphoff had four kills and Frankie Mohni 11 set assists. Abigail Otto made 11 digs with Abby Kunzman going 8-for-8 at the service line.
Trinity Christian was next for HMS and the Tigers controlled the first set, winning 21-9. Set two was up for grabs but it was Trinity that took it 24-22. Elise Haack, Mohni and Otto each came up with six digs. Haack and Abby Douma combined for a block. It was Schiphoff with five kills and Mohni with eight assists. Kunzman served 8-for-8 with two ace serves.
The Hawks got on the right side of a set score when they beat George-Little Rock 21-19 in set one. The Mustangs were able to win the second set 21-17 to even the match. The third and deciding set went down to the wire and George-Little Rock captured it 15-13. Haack made a solo block and assisted on another. Schiphoff recorded four block assists and six kills. Mohni notched 20 set assists. Kunzman dug up 13 Mustang attacks and was 11-of-12 serving. Emily Mutombo was successful on 8 of 9 serves and notched two aces.
