Hawk girls shoot season-low to defeat Gehlen girls
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn golf girls continue to go low. The Hawks trimmed eight strokes off their previous best team score, posting a 208 team total in defeating Gehlen Catholic, which finished at 216. HMS hosted the War Eagle Conference dual April 18 at Sanborn Golf and Country Club.
“I was extremely pleased with how the girls played against Gehlen,” said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. “We knew they would be good competition and the ladies did a great job of executing despite the cold and windy weather conditions. I love the mentality these ladies bring to the game day in and day out. We’ve talked a lot about managing situations – not letting small errors become larger errors. Long run, we need to be able to take the confidence we have had at our home meets and carry that over as we travel to other courses with different challenges.”
HMS golfers claimed three of the four medals. Elise Haack and Kinsey Schirmer each shot a round of 47. It was Schirmer’s low round of the season while Haack matched her season best. A handicap hole tiebreaker gave Haack first place with Schirmer earning the runner-up medal. Gracie Knobloch carded a 52 to take home the fourth-place medal. Abby Kunzman’s 62 was her low round of the season.
