Pitching, just enough hitting, carry Hawks past Trinity
In only one inning was Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn able to score runs against Trinity Christian. That one was enough however, as HMS blanked the Tigers 3-0 June 1 at Hartley. The game was pushed back a day due to wet weather.
Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad was pleased with the bottom-line result, saying. “We got the win tonight.” She continued, “We have some injuries that affect our batting lineup and hoping to have them all back next week. Batting didn’t string together tonight like we wanted but not playing for three days I feel slowed down our playing and hitting.”
Tossing the shutout was Gracie Knobloch. She allowed only four hits and three walks while striking out 12 Tiger batters. “Gracie pitched a great game from the mound,” praised Bronstad.
HMS broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Kinsey Schirmer and Knobloch hit back-to-back singles and an error on the catcher allowed each to move up a base. Kamryn Ebel then drew a walk to fill the bases. A base hit by Eliza Tewes plated Schirmer but Knobloch was later out at home on a fielder’s choice. Addy Sheeler helped the cause in a big way, stroking a single to score both Ebel and Tewes.
Knobloch’s 3-for-3 night included a triple. Schirmer finished with two hits. There was also a single apiece from Cadence Klein and Morgan Grooters. Each team left five runners on base. Trinity’s error in the fourth was the only one of the game.
