Remsen St. Mary’s blanks HMS in four
Remsen St. Mary’s scored six runs in each of their three innings at bat to down Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 18-0 June 12 at Remsen. The host Hawks outhit HMS 13-1 in the War Eagle Conference match-up.
“We went with a pitcher by committee because of the four game week and needing to keep guys eligible to pitch in other games,” noted HMS head coach Jeremy Gloden. “It really didn’t matter who we put on the mound, Remsen hit it very well. They are very solid and made it tough on us all night. One that you try to learn some things from, but need to move on to the next.”
Jacob Cates had the lone hit for HMS, a second-inning single. He was quickly erased on a double play as the St. Mary’s tandem of Collin Homan and Cael Ortmann faced the minimum number of batters.
Trenton Vollink got the start for the visitors and went a third of an inning. He gave up six earned runs on four hits with a walk and a hit batter. Tyson Tessum pitched 1-1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with one strikeout. Tanner Tesch tossed a third of an inning which included nine runs (five earned) on five hits. He walked two batters and hit one. The last inning plus on the mound went to Evan Eilers. He allowed one unearned run and one hit while fanning two batters and walking one. HMS committed four errors.
