Hawks hand out too many free bases in loss to GTRA
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn couldn’t keep up with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, losing to the Titans 16-5 in five innings June 27 at Ruthven. HMS allowed nine hits but also put 13 more runners on base either by walk or hit by pitch.
“Kinsey (Schirmer) struggled on the mound,” said Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “We hit the ball well and defensively played well but just couldn’t pull it off. Kamryn (Ebel) came in to finish the game and did what we needed her to. We just need consistency on the mound, bats and defense every game.”
Schirmer went 3-1/3 innings, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) and six hits. She issued six walks and hit four batters. The final 1-1/3 innings showed Ebel yielding four runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and one hit batter. The duo were unable to record a strikeout. There were four HMS errors.
Ebel had two hits, including an RBI single in the three-run second inning. Schirmer singled to drive in a run in the second and later scored. Morgan Grooters also had a base hit and a run scored in that inning. Frankie Mohni singled and scored in the first inning and contributed an RBI groundout in the second. Addy Sheeler had a base hit in the third and came home on Gracie Knobloch’s single. Sheeler also drew two base-on-balls, coming around to score in the second. The eighth and final Hawk hit came off the bat of Delaney Murphy in the fifth inning.
