Long ball fuels Wolves’ win over HMS
Caleb Hemphill’s two home runs led Harris-Lake Park to a 5-1 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 21 at Hartley. His two-run shot in the fourth inning increased the Wolves’ lead to 3-0. Hemphill’s solo shot in the seventh was part of a two-run seventh that allowed the visitors pad their lead. The Hawks’ lone run came in the fifth.
Tyson Tessum got the pitching start for HMS and took the loss. He went 3-1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on two hits. Tessum walked five batters, struck out four and hit two. The relief job went to Evan Eilers. He yielded three runs, two of which were earned. His line included two hits, two strikeouts and two walks. The Hawks committed three errors.
The HMS fifth began with a Blake Meendering single but he was thrown out at second. A dropped third strike allowed Eilers to reach base. His courtesy runner, Aiden Bush, eventually scored on a base hit by Ethan Diehm. Trenton Vollink led off the game with a single for the only other Hawk hit. HMS left four runners on base and the Wolves seven.
