City/School Election is November 7

Tuesday, November 7 is the date for the Combined City/School Election with elected officials’ terms expiring at the City Government level as well as in the various school districts and on the NCC board of directors. One of the questions on the ballot pertains to a bond issue in the Sheldon Community School District.
Information regarding the election, including polling locations by precinct and the candidates on the ballot appeared in the Notice of Election published in last week’s issue of the Pioneer.

All polls in O’Brien County open at 7:00 a.m. on November 7 and will close at 8:00 p.m. that evening.
The polling place for the City of Sanborn and Franklin Township is the Sanborn Community Building.
In Sanborn the office of Mayor is up for election along with three spots on the City Council. Incumbent Mayor Randy Lyman has no opposition on the ballot. Current Council members Brian Visser and Aaron Wiekamp are seeking re-election. Also on the ballot for City Council are Kevin Groendyke, Seth Irmiter and Daniel Verrips.
Voters are charged with filling the openings on the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School Board of Directors in both District 1 and District 4. Incumbent Kyle McCarter is running unopposed in District 4. There is no candidate on the ballot for District 1, which includes the City of Sanborn and the immediate surrounding area.
The candidate on the ballot for NCC Director District V is Adam Besaw and for Director District VI is Leroy A Van Kekerix.
The ballot question for the Sheldon School District involves a bond issue for remodeling, repairing and making improvements to the high school. The question reads as follows:
SHALL THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC MEASURE BE ADOPTED?
Shall the Board of Directors of the Sheldon Community School District in the Counties of O’Brien, Osceola, Sioux and Lyon, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $19,160,000 to provide funds to be used together with sales tax bond proceeds to provide funds to remodel, repair, and improve the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems at the high school, with related remodeling and improvements; to build, furnish, and equip additions to the high school, with related remodeling and improvements; to remodel, repair, and improve the east and north side entries; and to make related site improvements?
