St. Mary’s pulls away to a win over HMS boys


Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hung with Remsen St. Mary’s for a while as the teams met December 8 at Remsen. The host Hawks began to draw clear in the middle two quarters of what became a 61-19 loss for the visitors. This was the first War Eagle Conference game for HMS, which slipped to 0-5 overall.
HMS trailed only 15-8 early in the second quarter but didn’t score again in the half, which ended with St. Mary’s ahead 32-8.
The home team, which shot 52 percent (26-of-50), got 18 points from Collin Homan and 17 from Sam Schmillen.
